Abstract
PURPOSE:To uniformly disperse high-strength fibers into aluminum without any deviation by making stranded wires by means of the high-strength fibers and aluminum wire materials. CONSTITUTION:A stranded wire 3 is made by means of an Al wire material 1 and high-strength metal fibers such as stainless steel fibers or high-strength fibers 2 such as alumina fibers. A multiplicity of these stranded wires 3... are aggregated to the volume conforming to that of a member to be produced, for example, connecting rod, after which the aggregate is mechanically formed to a molding 5 of nearly the same sectional shape as that of the connecting rod and high wall thickness. This molding 5 is heated in molding dies 8 at the liquid phase temp. of Al or a slightly higher temp. and while it is held set in the molding die on the lower side, it is pressed by the molding die on the upper side and is thereby pressure-molded. Hence, the fiber-reinforced Al product uniformly dispersed with the fibers without causing any voids among the high-strength fibers 2, 2 is obtained.
