Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the dispersibility and charging characteristics of magnetic particles in a magnetic toner by using a resin with 5W60 acid value as the binder of the toner.
CONSTITUTION: A resin with 5W60 acid value such as styrene-butyl acrylate- isobutyl maleate copolymer, polyester resin synthesized from 2,2-bis[P-(hydroxy-n- propoxy)-phenyl]propane and fumaric acid or polyethylene oxide is melted, well kneaded with a roll mill together with magnetite, finely pulverized with a jet mill pulverizer, and classified to select particles of a desired particle size. Thus, a magnetic toner is obtd. Development and transfer are repeated using this toner, after copying 10,000 times, the maximum image density and fog density were about 1.1W1.32 and about 0.01W0.02, respectively. When the acid value of the resin is <5, the chargeability of the magnetic particles is lowered and the dispersibility is insufficient. When the acid value exceeds 60, the moisture proof characteristics of the toner is deteriorated.
