Abstract

PURPOSE: To uniformly distribute meandering of the gasket for a palte type heat exchanger due to expansion thereof, by arranging a plurality of equispaced projections longitudianlly along the side of the gasket.
CONSTITUTION: Longitudinally along one side of the gasket 6 are arranged a plurality of equispaced projections 6a. The dimensions of the projections 6a are such that longitudinal expansion of the gasket 6 does not cuase each projection 6a to move over a boundary 7 of each relief portion 5 to an adjacent relief portion 5. Thus, when plates are stacked and the pressure expands the gaskets 6 longitudinally, the distance between the projections 6a became extended, so that the projections 6a is displaced to engage the boundary 7 of the adjacent relief portion 5 and the displacement is stopped with further extension permitted as meandering of the gasket 6. However the meandering is confined within the distance between the projections 6a and is uniformly distributed along the length of the gasket, so that localized deformation thereof can be prevented and leakage of a liquid can be prevented.
