Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable the entire thickness of an assembled element to be easily equalized by providing a spacers made of a thermoplastic foamed material on both sides of the assembled element, and compressing and deforming the spacers by heating and pressing them until the entire assembled element reaches a given thickness. CONSTITUTION:Negative plates, positive plates, glass mats, and the like are assembled according to a given structure to constitute an assembled element 1, which is placed in a metal frame 2 for the purouse of forming a strap which connects lags. A spacer 3 made of a thermoplastic foamed material such as a formed styrol, is made to be in contact with the sides of the assembled element 1. The spacers 3 are compressed and deformed by pressing and heating them by means of partition walls of the metal frame 2, each of which touches the spacers 3 and can be moved from right to left, until the entire assembled element reaches a given thickness.
