Abstract
PURPOSE: To thicken the effective internal oxide film layer formed on surfaces and increase resistance force against abrasion, fusion loss, seizure etc. by creating an atmosphere contg. specified amount of CO gas in the furnace at the time of heating the parts to be slided for plastic working apparatus within a heating furnace and heat treating the same.
CONSTITUTION: In a plastic working apparatus which applies rolling, drawing, extruding or seamless steel pipe working to a steel blank material, the parts to be slided disposed in the relation of being slided by the blank material, for example, mandrels, dies and the guiding members for the blank material are heat-treated to form oxide films of superior lubricity and heat insulation characteristic. To this end, the atmosphere in the heating furnace is made to an atmosphere contg. CO gas at ≤5%, and said parts are heated, after which they are subjected to heat treatment such as annealing (pierced plugs) or hardening (rolled plugs). The internal oxide film layer of superior abrasion resistance, fusion-loss resistance and seizure resistance is thickly formed on the base metal in uniform and close contact therewith.
