Abstract

PURPOSE:A lubricant composition especially readily soluble in an engine oil, having improved lubricity, pressure resistance, resistance to oxidation, and wear resistance, obtained by adding a novel molybdenum-containing compound to a base oil. CONSTITUTION:(A) A base oil such as a mineral oil, e.g., neutral oil, synthetic oil, animal or vegetable oil, etc. is blended with (B) 0.05-30wt% (preferably 0.1- 5wt%) compound shown by the formula (R1 is 1-24C hydrocarbon; R2 is 2- ethylhexyl or isoamyl; n is 1-4; x is 3.5-1.7; y is 0.5-2.3; x+y is 4) as an essential ingredient, to give the desired lubricant composition. The ingredient B is obtained by adjusting a mixed aqueous solution of molybdenum trioxide and sodium hydrosulfide to pH 0.5-8.0, adding carbon disulfide and a coresponding amine to the solution, followed by heating the solution to not lower than 80 deg.C.
