Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A molybdenum compound expressed by formula I (R is 1W24C hydrocarbon; R' is 2-ethylhexyl or isoamyl; n is an integer 1W4; x is 1.7W3.5; y is 0.5W2.3; x+y=4).
USE: An additive for a lubricating oil.
PROCESS: An amine expressed by formula II, e.g. a 2-ethylhexylamine derivative, is reacted with carbon disulfide or molybdenum trioxide and sodium hydrosulfide, in an aqueous solution to give a compound of formula I. For example, 2-ethylhexylamine is reacted with 2-ethylhexylaldehyde to synthesize a Schiff base, which is then reduced with sodium boron hydride (NaBH4) to afford 2-ethylhexyl-2-ethylhexyl-0-propoxyamine. On the other hand, MoO3 is dispersed in water, and sodium hydrosulfide is added thereto. Hydrochloric acid is then added to adjust the pH to 3.75. The above-mentioned amine and CS2 are added to form the carbamate of Mo.
