Abstract
PURPOSE: To enable easy and production in quantity of linear or variable-ratio racks even by applying a tooth-cutting process for rack teeth and a process for forging these teeth into the same form with that of the rack teeth to be manufactured.
CONSTITUTION: First a round bar material having a prescribed diameter is cut in a prescribed length by a cutting process, whereby a rack material 10 is obtained. While the tip of the material 10 is put into a die 14, the rear end part of the material 10 is pressed in the direction of an arrow by a ram 13. After a plane part 10a and tilt parts 10b are formed in a part of the material 10 by this extrusion forming, the straightening of the material is performed and appropriate heat treatment is applied thereto. Next, after the material 10 is machined into that of a prescribed form by applying cut machining to both ends thereof, tooth cutting is applied to the plane part 10a by the cut machining, whereby the rack teeth having the form approximate to that of the rack teeth 3 to be manufactured can be manufactured easily and in quantity.
