Abstract

PURPOSE: To close easily the end of a stringlike resin extruded product without using an expensive metal mold by cutting along predetermined lines at the end of the product, removing an inner sponge, and bending one side of a body to connect to the other side of the body.
CONSTITUTION: The stringlike resin extruded product comprising a hollow body 2 made of a hard synthetic resin and a sponge 3 made of a synthetic resin and filled inside of the hollow body 1 is cut in the end part 4 along lines 5 and 6. The cutting line 5 in the axial direction of the body 2 is longer than the height D of the sponge in the cross section. The cutting line 6 in the vertical direction extends in continuance from the cutting line 5. Thus the sponge 3a is cut off. Then, the parts 2a and 2c of the body 2 from which the sponge 3a is removed are deformed to be a single flat piece. The flat piece is then bent over the cut surface 3b of the sponge 3 and welded at a free end to a remaining part 2b of the body 2. The extra parts projecting from the closed configuration are removed by a blade 7 thereby forming a smoothly trimmed end of the product.
