Abstract

PURPOSE: To shorten the time of defrosting operation of the air conditioner which is designed to be capable of changing its heating and cooling capacity through control of the output of a compressor, by increasing the output of the compressor at the time of defrosting operation as compared with that during ordinary heating and cooling operation.
CONSTITUTION: A refrigerating cycle is constituted by the compressor 19, a four- way valve 18, indoor heat exchanger 15, pressure reducing means 16 and outdoor heat exchanger 17 connected operatively to each other by pipes. In case that frosting is caused at the outdoor heat exchanger 17, for instance, during heating operation of the air conditioner, the four-way valve 18 is switched by a defrosting signal given by a defrosting controller 20, and gas discharged from the compressor 19 is led to the outdoor heat exchanger 17 for heating the same and thus removing frost produced at the heat exchanger 17. At the same time, when an output is given from the controller 20, a predetermined voltage is given from a logical operation circuit 24 to a frequency converter 21 for producing a signal having a maximum frequency for said predetermined voltage and thus causing high-speed rotation of the compressor 19.
