Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:The titled compound of formula I (R is H or 1W6C alkyl; X is O or S; Y is H or 1W6C alkyl, 1W6C alkoxyl, halogen, etc; n is an integer 0W3, except when n is 2 and Y is 3,5-dichloro group).
EXAMPLE: 6-Phenylperhydroimidazo[5,1-b]thiazole-5,7-dione.
USE: An agricultural and horticultural germicide showing a remarkable effect on plant blights, particularly gray mold and sclerotinia rot of vegetables, blast and helminthosporium leaf spot of rice plants, with little phytotoxicity to plants and low toxicity to men, cattle and fishes.
PROCESS: A compound of formula III (R' is H or lower alkyl) is reacted with a compound of formula IV in a solvent if necessaty in the presence of a base to give a compound of formula II, which is then cyclized through condensation by heating, etc. in the presence of an acid, e.g. hydrochloric acid, to afford the compound of formula I.
