Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A 2-hydroxybenzamide derivative of formula I (R1 is H or acetyl group; R2 is lower alkyl, phenyl group, etc.).
EXAMPLE: N-(1-n-Butylamino-2,2,2-trichloroethyl)-2-acetoxybenzamide.
USE: A soil bactericide for agriculture and horticulture, particularly active against clubroot of cruciferous vegetables, in a low concentration with low toxicity to men and cattle, and without fear of soil pollution.
PROCESS: A compound of formula II is reacted with a halogenating agent, e.g. SOCl2, to give a compound of formula III (X is halogen), which is then reacted with a compound of formula IV in a solvent, e.g. dichloromethane, in the presence of a base, e.g. KOH, to form the title derivative of formula I.
