Abstract

PURPOSE: To discriminate the AE wave signal and the noise signal from each other in a short time, by converting envelope components extrcted from the receiving signal into a binary with a fixed slice level to obtain the signal of a pulse width corresponding to the damping coefficient and by comparing the pulse width.
CONSTITUTION: AE wave signal S and mechanical noise signal N are included in the receiving signal of AE sensor 11 and are converted to binaries in discriminator 15 by prescribed slice level C after respective envelope components are extracted by envelope extracting circuit 13. As the result, the pulse signal corresponding to the duration width of the receiving signal of sensor 11 and the peak value of signal S or N are detected by discriminator 15 and auxiliary pulse generating circuit 16 respectively, and damping signals P1 and Q1 of damping coefficients P and Q with these detection values as initial values are obtained, and further, pulse signals P2 and Q2 obtained by slicing signals P1 and Q1 by level C are obtained. Consequently, the AE wave signal and the noise signal can be discriminated from each other in a short time by comparing the receiving signal and said signals P2 and Q2 in pulse width.
