Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain hexaorganoditin compound of high purity at a high yield by electrolyzing specific triorganotin formate in the presence of an organic solvent.
CONSTITUTION: The triorganotin formate expressed by the formula I is obtained by the dehydration reaction of triorganohydroxide or bis(triorganotin) oxide and formic acid or the desodium-halide reaction of triorganotin halide and sodium formate. This is electrolyzed in the presence of an organic solvent. The organic solvent is preferably, for example, dimethylformamide, 2-ethoxy ethanol, etc. which have no moisture content. The quantity of electricity necessary for the electrolysis is about 1W4 Faraday (equiv.) and electric efficiency is about ≥20%. The reaction is performed at room temp., and the evolution of carbonic acid gas and hydrogen is admitted during reaction progress. The product is straightly filtered if it is solid, and is fractionally distilled if liquid. This yields the hexaorganoditin compound of the formula II.
