Abstract
PURPOSE: To make the actual packing density of optical fibers maximum, facilitate terminal processing, and prevent the confusion of arrangement by arranging the fibers in two or more layers, adjusting the ratio of the number of the laterally arranged fibers to the number of the longitudinally arranged fibers to ≥3, and covering the fibers with an outer coat having grooves without adhesion.
CONSTITUTION: Optical fibers 1 are arranged so as to adjust the ratio of the number (n) of laterally arranged fibers 1 to the number (m) of longitudinally arranged fibers 1 to ≥3 and the number (m) to ≥2. Fibers 1 are then covered with outer coat 2 made of thermoplastic resin and having inside grooves 5. Fibers 1 are not adhered to each other and to coat 2. This filled structure of the highest density makes the number of fibers 1 actually packed per unit area maximum. When terminal processing is carried out, by applying lateral pressure in the arrow 4 directions, coat 2 is raised, so by tearing coat 2 with an edge tool, fibers 1 can be separated easily. Inside grooves 5 of coat 2 prevent the confusion of the fiber arrangement.
