Abstract

PURPOSE: To avoid failure due to tape oscillation and improper contactness between magnetic head and tape, to any recording system, by enabling to change the guiding of tape depending on the recording system, in magnetic tape unit.
CONSTITUTION: The tape guide of the magnetic tape unit consists of the fixed guide 3 and the moving guide 4 pushed on the tape with the weak spring 5. Further, the moving guide 4 presses the magnetic tape 1 with the spring 5, and the rod 7 is provided at the lower side. Further, the rod 7 receives a force to move the fixed guide 3 by several tens of μm to move the moving guide 4 toward reverse direction by several tens of μm. Thus, in case of NRZ system, guiding is possible by pressing the moving guide 4 to the tape edge and in case of PE/GCR system, the moving guide is detached from the tape edge without being contacted to the tape, allowing to prevent the failure due to oscillation.
