PURPOSE:To make the sensor simple, small-sized and highly reliable by a constitution wherein the light of the prescribed wavelength is injected in a ferromagnetic garnet crystal, the light projected therefrom is detected, and the temperature is detected by utilizing the change in the rate of light absorption of the crystal in relation to the temperature. CONSTITUTION:Luminous diodes of wavelength of 1.06mum and 1.23mum are used as light sources 7 and 8, and the light therefrom is joined by a dichroic filter 9, is passed through a optical 10 and a rod lens 12 and is injected into the crystal 11 of Y3Fe5O12. The light transmitted is passed through a rod lens 12' and a optical 10' and separated by the filter 9. The light separated is detected respectively by photoreceivers 13 and 14 such as photodiodes, the ratio of two signals obtained therefrom is found by a divider 15, and thus an output signal of temperature is obtained. This is based on the fact that the light of the wavelength of 1.06mum has considerably larger temperature dependency of absorption than that of the wavelength of 1.15mum. By this constitution, the device can be made simple, small-sized and highly reliable.
