Abstract

PURPOSE: To recover efficiently light oil contg. less metal components, by a method wherein a gaseous solvent which is nearly in a critical state is contacted with heavy oil which has been partially converted to light oil by thermal cracking.
CONSTITUTION: Heavy oil from a line 5 is introduced into a packed column 1, and heated at a temp. (about 380W450°C) at which the heavy oil is not completely decomposed, in order to convert, part of the heavy oil to light oil. A gaseous solvent which has been supplied through a line 6 and compressed nearly to critical pressure in a compressor 3, is introduced into the packed column 1 and contacted with the heavy oil to extract the light oil component in the heavy oil into a vapor phase until equilibrium is attained. Then the pressure of the light oil component extracted into the vapor phase is reduced by a reducing valve 4. The light oil component is cooled and condensed by a condenser 2, and recovered through a line 9. While part of noncondensed gas is discharged through a line 7, the remaining part of the gas is recycled to reuse it. As the solvent, a solvent whose critical temperature is close to the heavy oil-processing temperature, is selected from the group consisting of propane, butane and toluene.
