Abstract

PURPOSE:To make the holding method of optical fibers simple by so constituting the device that the plural optical fibers to be photocoupled are opposedly disposed and fixed on a support base of V-groove shape by using metallic pipes provided with slits. CONSTITUTION:A V-groove 2 meeting the outside diameter width of a metallic pipe 3 is formed in T-form on a support base 1 and the metallic pipes 3 each having a slit 4 of a width D smaller than the diameter of an optical fiber along its lengthwise direction are fixed in the fiber disposing positions of said V-groove 2 by means of an adhesive agent. The optical fibers 5, 6 and 7 to be photocoupled are inserted into these pipes 3 respectively. Thence, the optical axis alignment between the optical fibers 5, 6, 7 is done and where the positions are determined, an adhesive agent such as e.g. epoxy-base resin is flowed in the slits 4 to fix the fibers 5, 6, 7. Since the optical fibers are disposed and fixed by using the metallic pipes provided with the slits in this way, the holding method may be simplified and the optical axis alignment may be readily done.
