Abstract

PURPOSE:To ensure a steady reading of signals regardless of the track variance of the magnetic tape, by providing a plurality of the rows of multiheads which are formed by disposing several heads in the direction vertical to the travelling direction of the magnetic tape and with a shift secured in the same direction and then using these rows of the multiheads selectively. CONSTITUTION:The rows of the multiheads comprising the track variance reading heads 1A (1B, 1C) plus the signal reading heads 2A-nA (2B-nB, 2C-nC) are disposed as shown in the figure (a). Thus the n-channel multihead 5 is formed. For the head 5, the magnetic outputs of the heads 1A, 1B and 1C are detected through the amplitude ratio comparator 7. And if the signal supplied from 1B is large, only the switch circuits S2B-SnB are turned on. And the reading signals from the heads 2B-nB are made to pass through the delay circuits D2B-DnB to give a correction to the phase and then delivered to the output circuits 8-9 (figure b).
