Abstract
PURPOSE: To recover high-purity silicon carbide and to enhance tungsten content by a method wherein abrasive powder contg. tungsten carbide, silicon carbide, etc. is supplied to and selected by a specified high power magnetic selector filled with matrix element in hollow core magnetic field.
CONSTITUTION: Sintered carbide tool abrasive powder consisting of tungsten carbide, silicon carbide, and other magnetic material is supplied to a high magnetic selector filled with matrix element in hollow magnetic field of 2,000W20,000 oersted, so that magnetic material and nonmagnetic material are separated. This allows high-purity recovery of silicon carbide as nonmagnetic material and tungsten carbide as magnetic material along with other iron powder and cobalt, etc. When necessary, the abrasive powder is pretreated with a low magnetic selector of 200W2,000 oersted to remove iron powder, and thereafter the above high magnetic selection is conducted.
