Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare an aqueous solution of acrylamide having no problems in quality as a raw material for producing a polymer, by treating acrylonitrile with a bacterium having nitorilase activity in an aqueous medium wherein an alkali metallic salt and an organic carboxylic acid are present.
CONSTITUTION: In an aqueous medium wherein at least one selected from the group consisting of a carbonate and a bicarbonate of an alkali metal and a water- soluble organic carboxylic acid, e.g., formic acid, acetic acid, acrylic acid, etc., acrylonitrile is treated with a bacterium having nitorilase activity, e.g., N-771 strain of the genus Corynebacterium (FERM-P 4445).
