Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a polarizing film of water resistant and high polarization capacity by compounding an anionic dichromatic dye in a vinyl copolymer contg. tertiary or quaternary N.
CONSTITUTION: A copolymer contg. a vinyl monomer contg. tertiary or quarternary N at a rate of 50W1wt% is produced by copolymerizing said vinyl monomer and other (meth)acrylonitrile or the like. Or it is produced by adding tertiary or quaternary N atoms through chemical conversion to the copolymer of (meth)acrylonitrile and other vinyl monomer. The film made by casting the mixed soln. of the resulted copolymer and an anionic dichromatic dye on a glass plate is stretched to produce the polarizing film. In this way, the polarizing film which is superior in polarizing characteristics, is good in water resistance and is not subjected to any changes in physical property and polarizing characteristics by the moisture or the like in air is obtained.
