Abstract
PURPOSE: To supply adequately request current for reference pole oxygen partial pressure control required according to a change in oxygen sensor element temperature, by using the simple characteristics that the resistance value of a heat- insulating heater varies with the temperature change of the oxygen sensor element.
CONSTITUTION: When external electric power source VB is put to work, heat- insulating heater 2 is supplied with electric power via resistance R1 to heat up. Consequently, the temperature of oxygen sensor 10 rises, but for example, when this is used to measure oxygen concentration in exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine for a car, the temperature of oxygen sensor element 10 fluctuates according to drive conditions. According to fluctuations of the temperature of this oxygen sensor element 10, the resistance of heat-insulating heater 2 varies. The collector current of transistor TR, i.e. reference pole oxygen partial pressure control current supplied to oxygen sensor element 10 is nearly equal to oxygen sensor element request current, so that the stable operation of oxygen sensor element 10 will be realized.
