Abstract
PURPOSE:To smooth the rise of the specific gravity of an electrolyte at the last stage of the formation with a lead storage battery, by introducing compressed air into the electrolyte through tubes which are inserted through an electrolyte-pouring hole and reach the bottom of an assembled element, and stirring the electrolyte. CONSTITUTION:An assembled element which consists of positive plates 5, negative plates 6 and separator 7 is placed in a container 1. Plural fine flexible tubes 4, which pass close to the inner wall of the container 1 and reach the bottom of the plates, the inserted through an electrolyte-pouring hole 3 of the container 1. During formation with a lead storage battery which includes an assembled element which has not undergone any formation, direct current is fed until the quantity of electricity reaches 20% of the nominal capacity: with this quantity of electricity, the generation amounts of oxygen and hydrogen are small and the efficiency of the formation is high. Afte that, the battery undergoes formation at a constant voltage, while compressed air is introduced into an electrolyte through the flexible tubes 4. Thus the electrolyte is stirred, and the rise of the specific gravity of the electrolyte at the last stage of the formation goes smoothly.
