Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A phosphorus-containing polymer of formula I [A is aromatic hydrocarbon; B is group of formula II (R is hydrocarbon, or halohydrocarbon; R' is A; a and b are 0W3, a+b is 3) of formula III [A' is A; X and Y are 0, S or NR" (R" is hydrocarbon); c is 1 or 0]; n is 2W1,000].
EXAMPLE: The compound of formula IV (Ph is phenyl).
USE: Plasticizer, coating agent, adhesive, flame retardant, glutinization agent, molding compound and raw material of film. The characteristics of the polymer are heat- resistance based on the aromatic ring and the flame-retardancy based on the phosphorus atom.
PROCESS: The compound of formula I is prepared by reacting a trivalent phosphorus compound of formula PRa(OR')b or formula V with a quinone compound with heat. The molar ratio of the phosphorus compound to the quinone compound is pref. about 1 to (0.5W1.5). The reaction temperature is 0W350°C.
