Abstract
PURPOSE: To detect extremely small piercing crack with facility and certainty using a simple method, by making sodium in the crack a strong alkaline substance, and then by making it contact a discoloration reacting substance.
CONSTITUTION: Water is applied to a surface 5 of a wall 1 of an equipment of a pipeline, etc. in such a manner so to wipe it with a distilled-water-absorbed gauze or sanitary cotton, etc., and sodium or sodium compound 3 near the surface in a piercing crack 2 is made to react the water to be turned into a strong alkaline substance 4, and then, a substance, which is discolored by reacting alkaline substance, such as phenolphthalien, etc. is applied to the surface 5 through a gauze or cotton, etc. By doing so, the discoloration reacting substance reacts the strong alkaline substance 4 to be discolored, and position of the piercing crack 2 is thus indicated. Further, by utilizing a paper towel or cloth, etc. which had absorbed phenolphthalein solution diluted with distilled water, the operation can be further simplified.
