PURPOSE:To increase the number of set magnification variation modes while attaining high-speed operation and high reliability by supplying PLL with pulses obtained on the basis of reference drive and by using its output as the reference signal of a drive part for an optical system scanning mechanism. CONSTITUTION:Pulses generated by encoder 22 according to the operation of reference drive part 20 are supplied to PLL-1. The output of PLL-1 is supplied to PLL-2 and the drive system for the optical system scanning mechanism. The output of PLL-2 is fed back to PLL-2 via frequency-dividing pulse counter 30 and also to PLL-1 via variable-frequency-dividing pulse counter 31. On the other hand, drive part 21 for the optical system scanning mechanism operates synchronizing with drive part 20 and generated pulses from encoder 32 accompanying the operation of drive part 21 are supplied to phase comparator 34 and compared to the output of PLL-1.
