Abstract

PURPOSE: To detect the clogging of the nozzles by providing magnetic materials on the surfaces of the nozzles for injection of molten metal, and converting the temperatures of said magnetic materials to oscillation frequencies.
CONSTITUTION: Powder magnetic materials 3A, 3B are coated on the surface of, for example, the long nozzle 10A of a ladle 1A and the immersion nozzle 10B of a tundish 1B. Pickup coils 4A, 4B which are not in contact with each other and come up in proximity to each other are provided on the coated surfaces thereof and these coils are connected to the molten metal injection discrimination circuits 15A, 15B consisting of oscillators 7A, 7B and frequency discrimination circuits 8A, 8B. On the other hand, sliding gates 2A, 2B are connected to opening-closing operation mechanisms 5A, 5B, gate driving devices 6A, 6B and AND circuits 9A, 9B. When no molten metal is flowing, the temperature changes of the magnetic materials 3A, 3B are changed to signals by the frequency discrimination circuits 8A, 8B. When these signals and the signals of the slide open being emitted by the AND circuits 9A, 9B hold AND conditions, alarm output signals SA, SB are output to give alarms.
