Abstract

PURPOSE: Titled copolymer which has a specified range of an intrinsic viscosity in decalin and is excellent in impact resistance, etc., and suitable for the production of car parts, etc., comprising an ethylene homopolymer and a random copolymer of propylene and a linear α-olefin.
CONSTITUTION: The titled copolymer is obtained by combining (a) 50W99pts.wt. of a random copolymer of propylene and a linear α-olefin such as pentene-1, hexene-1, heptene-1 or decene-1 with (b) 50W1pts.wt of an ethylene homopolymer so that the resulting block copolymer has an MW which corresponds to an intrinsic viscosity in decalin at 135°C, of 0.3W15dl/g. By proper selection of the copolymerization conditions, it is possible to produce copolymers which are flexible to semirigid and have a good balance between heat resistance and impact resistance. These copolymers are useful as materials for electrical appliances.
