Abstract

PURPOSE: To detect a value of coefficient of friction of road surface μ from an equation of motion of wheels based on an electric signal corresponding to each of wheel speed acceleration and deceleration, a brake torque, and a wheel load.
CONSTITUTION: A wheel acceleration and deceleration speed detecting part 1 differentiates a wheel angle speed signal ω obtained by a wheel speed sensor and generates electric signals corresponding to wheel acceleration and deceleration rates. A brake torque detecting part 2 detects a brake hydraulic pressure in a wheel cylinder and generates electric signals of which size corresponds to a brake torque. Then, a wheel load detecting part 3 generates electric signals corresponding to the wheel load per each wheel including load shift at braking by measuring bending of a suspension spring by a strain gauge, and the output signals from these detecting parts 1W3 are input to a computing device 4 for coefficient of friction of road surface μ to calculate an instantaneous value of the coefficient from an equation of motion of wheels.
