Abstract
1297976 Controlling motor vehicles DR ING HCF PORSCHE KG 18 Dec 1969 [22 Jan 1969] 61805/69 Heading B7H An anti-skid arrangement for vehicles having an anti-locking mechanism for the wheels comprises means for measuring the angular movements of the spring mass about the axes of inertia of the vehicle for detecting the instantaneous driving condition, control means operatively connected with the measuring means and including at least one means for maintaining the vehicle on course, and means operatively associated with the control means and associated with the course maintaining means for the automatic control thereof. As shown, a vehicle body W has independently front and rear wheels 1, 2 and 3, 4, an engine 7 and a fully automatic changespeed transmission 8. A gyroscope 12, disposed at the overall centre of gravity S, detects the angular velocity about the vertical axis G and converts such measurements into electrical signals which may be differentiated to produce an electrical signal measuring angular acceleration. The transverse acceleration or velocity is measured by known sensors 13, 14, 15 and 16 disposed in the axes of the wheels, the sensors including capacitive means for converting detected values into electric signals. These signals are fed to a control mechanism 26 which effects predetermined countermeasures for con- trolling the driving condition. The control mechanism 26 operated through push-button 27 by the driver has three separate programmes for varying road conditions, e.g. dry zone, wet zone, or winter. Course maintaining devices comprise an hydraulic braking unit actuated by a servomotor 31 connected to mechanism 26, a servomotor 32 for controlling the throttle 19 of the engine 7, means varying camber or castor angle of the front wheels, and means for spring balancing between the front and rear axles. In the braking unit inductive pick-up means 29 monitor the wheel revolutions, such that a control mechanism 30 regulates the brake pressure of all four wheels should the revolutions of one drop relatively to the others, i.e. a skidding condition, the brake pressure of that wheel is reduced.
