Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture a sheet-shaped polishing material which is flexible and excels in repeatedly bending properties, by using a self-cross-linked polymer of prescribed composition to make a size coat layer for a fibrous web and providing a making layer.
CONSTITUTION: A self-cross-linked polymer, which has a latex composition and contains two or more kinds of functional groups, is used to make a size coat layer for a fibrous web. One of the functional groups is a hydroxyl group and the other is selected from those which have react with the hydroxyl group. The ratio of both the functional groups is set at 1:0.9W1:0.7. A making coat layer is made of a mixture of thermosetting resin with polishing abrasive grains on the surface of the size coat layer. As a result, the adhesive power between fibers is heightened enough, the surface of coated films is made resistant to solvents and the dropping-off of the polishing abrasive grains and the fibers is prevented. A sheet-shaped polishing material strong against repeated bending is thus manufactured.
