Abstract

PURPOSE:To lessen the blacking of the tube end portion of a lamp by coating an electrode base with an electron-radiating substance containing a specific amount of lanthanum oxide on the basis of yttrium oxide contained. CONSTITUTION:An electrode for discharge lamp is formed by coating an electrode base with an electron-radiating substance containing 10 to 90mol% lanthanum oxide on the basis of yttrium oxide contained. The combined use of lanthanum oxide having a high heat resistance even when used solely and yttrium oxide enables radiation of electrons to enhance because of the formation of mixed crystals or double compound. In addition, without alkaline earth metal oxides, the radiation of electrons and starting voltage characteristic can be improved and also the blacking of the tube end portion can be lessened.
