Abstract
PURPOSE:To automatically remove the 1st coating by stripping an optical fiber with wiping pieces containing an organic solvent. CONSTITUTION:After an optical fiber A is removed of its nylon coating, and the 2nd coating, it is fixed to a base 5 by means of a holder 7. When a motor is switched on, a pair of removers 19a, 19b having wiping pieces 26a, 26b including an organic solvent such as alcohol grasp the exposed part B of the optical fiber with the tapered surfaces of a clamp 38 and move while stripping the fiber. When they move up to the right limit, the removers again return to the left and repeat the same operation, thereby removing the primary coating. This operation is controlled by the cam follower provided to a remover base 17 and the barrel cam cooperating with the motor.
