Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce cost and lighten the device by a method wherein a propeller shaft is made of an aluminum alloy material, an outside member is internally chilled, and an integral structure of the shaft and the outside member is formed, in the universal joint used for a rotatory drive system of an automobile, etc. CONSTITUTION:A propeller shaft 3 is formed in such a manner that an outside member 4 previously molded in a necessary shape is internally chilled and casted by a nonporous die cast by an aluminum alloy material. An integral member is treated to a condition that it is hardened, and the aluminum alloy portion is brought to a condition that plastic working is possible. A shaft element 1, an inside member 2, transmission elements 5, a cage 6 and a sealing portion 7 are incorporated according to a known method. After incorporating, an end portion of the propeller shaft 3 is inward bent and plastically worked. After working is completed, the strength of the aluminum alloy portion is increased by aging-treating the whole.
