Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a highly active mercury removing agent necessitating no washing, by adding a metal oxide and an acid to a concentrate obtained by treating a sulfide or with a mineral acid, as a mercury removing agent and, thereafter, passing hydrogen sulfide until a formed metal ion disappears.
CONSTITUTION: Into a concentrate obtained in an ore concentration process of a natural sulfide ore such as zinc blende or galena, a metal oxide such as zinc oxide and a small amount of an acid such as sulfuric acid are added and, hydrogen sulfide is passed therethrough until formed metal ions such as zinc ion disappear, to obtain precipitate. The precipitate is used as material for absorbing mercury in an exhaust gas. This absorbing agent carries out the removal of mercury well without necessity of washing or the like.
