Abstract

PURPOSE: To synthesize L-alanine efficiently from fumaric acid and ammonia through L-aspartic acid, by adding fixed aspartase and fixed L-aspartic acid-β- decarboxylase to a series multistage reactor.
CONSTITUTION: Fixed aspartase and fixed L-aspartic acid-β-decarboxylase are added to individual tanks of series multistage reactor forming one continuous system, and reaction conditions, e.g., activity ratio of enzyme, pH, etc. are set properly in such a way that these conditions are different from tank to tank. A solution containing ammonium fumarate and pyridoxal phosphate is fed to a tank of the first stage continuously, the product, L-alanine, is recovered directly from a tank of the last stage without separating the intermediate, L-aspartic acid. The enzyme (mold) to be used is obtained by fixing a well-known enzyme by a well-known method.
