Abstract
PURPOSE: An emulsion that is prepared by dispersing an acrylic copolymer resulting from the copolymerization of dicyclopentadiene derivative, followed by introduction of allyl groups, in water, thus being suitably used for coating because it cures at room temperature in a short time and gives coating films with high hardness, water resistance and corrosion resistance.
CONSTITUTION: (A) A compolymer is prepared by copolymerization of (i) a dicyclopentadiene derivative of the formula (R is H, lower alkyl, halogen), (ii) an α,β-unsaturated monomer containing hydroxy group such as 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate and (iii) an α,β-unsaturated monomer copolymerizable with components (i) and (ii) so that the amount of component (i) becomes 2W30wt%, component (ii) becomes 3W20wt%. (A) the resulting copolymer is made to react with (B) 2W20wt%, based on component A, of an allyl ether containing terminal isocyanate to form a copolymer. The copolymer is dispersed in water to give the objective emulsion.
