Abstract

PURPOSE: To recover phenols effectively by adsorbing phenols in an exhaust water to a polyvinyl pyridine type resin and, subsequently, desorbing said phenols therefrom.
CONSTITUTION: An exhaust water containing phenols such as phenol, cresol, resorcine or hydroquinone is contacted with a polyvinyl phridine type resin (2-, 3-, or 4-vinyl pyridine or a crosslinked polymer of a nuclear substituted derivative thereof) to absorb said phenols to said resin. Subsequently, hot water or steam is passed through and heat the resin absorbing said phenols to attain to desorb the phenols.
