Abstract

PURPOSE: To accurately analyze chromium through simple operation, by charging a sample alloy into a carbon burner and supplying oxygen at a prescribed temperature to burn off the carbon in the alloy and oxidize its chromium and iron.
CONSTITUTION: A sample alloy S is charged into a carbon burner A. Oxygen is supplied as the temperature of the alloy is maintained at 650W700°C. As a result, the carbon in the alloy is burned off and its chromium and iron are oxidized. It is preferable to previously pulverize the alloy to about 250W350 mesh. According to this method, even an alloy containing 2% or more by weight of carbon and 3% or more by weight of chromium, some of which is present in the form of a carbide which cannot be dissolved by acid, alkali and a melting agent, can be easily molten by the melting agent after the treatment as mentioned above. Accurate analysis is thus enabled.
