Abstract

PURPOSE: To colorize continuously a light-colored flame by means of a sodium flame reaction for visualization, by attaching a substance containing sodium carbonate to the tip of the burner nozzle.
CONSTITUTION: A substance containing sodium carbonate in 5wt% or more is attached to the tip of the burner nozzle, whereby the brightness of flame is remarkably increased. Even if the amount of Na2CO3 to be added is increased thereafter, no great effect is obtained. The trend is basically not changed for combinations of Na2CO3 and other carriers. In the mixed system of NaCl and calcium carbonate, no great increase in the brightness of flame with increasing NaCl mixing ratio is observed, with a comparatively moderate alteration. Thus, using the method in which a substance containing 5wt% or more sodium carbonate is attached to the tip of the burner nozzle, the visualization or visual control of colorless or light- colored flame, e.g., of hydrogen or carbon monoxide, can be continuously performed without altering the major combustion condition.
