Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a resin, excellent in color and heat stability and having good solubility in an aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent, by the copolymerization of a specified five-membered ring compound with a codimer of said ring compound and 1,3- butadiene.
CONSTITUTION: (A) 20W90pts.wt. of a five-membered ring compound of the formula (wherein R is 1W2C alkyl; m and n are integers of 0 or at least 1, where m+n=6), having a conjugated double bond, and/or of a Diels-Adler adduct of said ring compound (e.g., cyclopentadiene, dicyclopentadiene) are copolymerized with (B) 80W10pts.wt. of a codimer of said ring compound and 1,3-butadiene (e.g., tetrahydroindene, vinyl-norbonene) at 200W350°C for 30min to 15hr, to obtain a resin. Then, if necessary, the resin is hydrogenated in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst at 100W300°C at a hydrogen pressure of 5W200kg/cm2.
