Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the volume productivity and uniformity of products by performing the entire working of the lead-in part of pipe end in pipe working for pressfit joining, the tapered surfaces of press-fitting and the flange part formed at the root of the press-fit part by one shot pressing.
CONSTITUTION: One end of a pipe 11 is inserted into the chucking groove 16 of a chucking bed 15 and the chucking groove 16' of a moving chucking bed 15', and the bottom end of the pipe is abutted on and detained by a step 26. When a press die 19 is then lowered, the pipe is held between the chucking grooves 16, 16'. Since the chucking bed 15 is in alignment to the center of the chucking groove 16 and the center 22 of the press die, the centering of the pipe is accomplished accurately and automatically. When the forcing part 22' of the mandrel is inserted into the pipe end by the descending of the press die, the pipe is axially pressed and the pipe is drawn by the drawing die 24 of the press-fit part, thus it is finished to an accurate outside diameter. When the pipe end reaches the drawing die 23 of the lead-in part, the tapered surface of the lead-in part 14 is formed. Further, it is pressed and therefore buckling of the pipe occurs in the gap between the chucking beds and the press die so that the pipe bulges in the outside circumferential direction. As the press die stops descending, the flange 12 is formed.
