Abstract

PURPOSE: To attain energy saving of heat source for drying by burning a digested gas generated by subjecting sludge to digesting treatment to form a system for drying dehydrated sludge.
CONSTITUTION: The sludge M thrown into a digesting tank 10 is digested anaerobically and the generated methane gas is stored in a gas tank 12. The digested sludge is transferred to a concn. tank 14 and, after dehydrated by a dehydrating machine 16, sent to a drying machine 18. As a heat source for drying, the gas stored in the gas tank 12 is utilized. The remaining portion of the combustion gas consumed in the drying machine 18 is utilized to warm the air A introduced into a fermentation tank 22 and preserve the warmth of the digesting tank 10. The dried sludge from the drying machine 18 is aerobically fermented in the fermentation tank 22 and treated as a product P. If a fermentation gas is utilized as the air for burning the digestion gas of the drying machine 18, malodor of the fermentation gas is removed. Moreover, if a part of the fermentation product P is recycled between the drying machine 18 and the fermentation tank 22, fermentation time is shortened.
