Abstract
PURPOSE: To raise the decolorizing capability of an anion exchange resin for sugar syrup by a procedure in which a mixture of a monovinyl aromatic monomer and a cross-linking monomer is polymerized in the presence of a given amount of a linear polymer having a specific average molecular weight and then the cross-linked polymer thus obtained is subjected to a halo-alkylation treatment, etc.
CONSTITUTION: A mixture solution of an aromatic monovinyl monomer, e.g., styrene, and a cross-linking monomer, e.g., divinyl benzene, is polymerized in the presence of 1.0W10.0% a linear polymer an average molecular weight of 6×104W 3×105 of e.g., monovinyl monomers and then the granular cross-linked high molecular polymer thus obtained is subjected, after drying, to a halo-alkylation reaction by the usual method and then to an amination reaction using aq. trimethylamine solution, followed by washing with water. Thus, a granular anion exchange resin with countless small cracks can be obtained, with which the decolorization of a sugar syrup can be greatly raised.
