Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the Karl Fischer reagent in its titer and preservation stability, by mixing I2, SO2, pyridine, chloroform and prolylene glycol in a particular composition to obtain the reagent.
CONSTITUTION: The reagent includes in its one-liter mixture, I2≥0.7mol, CHCl3 350W550ml, CH3.C2H3(OH)2≥15ml, and SO2 above twice I2 and pyridine above 4.5 times I2 in a molar ratio, respectively. The titer of the reagent is above 9.5mg- H2O/ml and is maintained steadily over a long period of time.
