Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable to produce in simple processes and at low costs by carbonizing the whole or a part of a liquid junction forming material whose main component is a natural fiber.
CONSTITUTION: An appropriate amount of a powdery or granular hydrophobic polymer 5 is put into a cylindrical mold 4 and pressed from above with a pressing mold bar 6 and then a liquid junction forming material 7 consisting mainly of a natural fiber is put in from above the polymer 5. Next, after putting in an appropriate amount of the hydrophobic polymer 5 again, it is pressed heavily with the pressing mold bar 6. By heating such a formed material in a kiln and carbonizing a part or the whole of the material 7, a liquid junction 7' of porous carbon is formed. If the cross-sectional form of the liquid junction forming material 7 is made into an X-shape, the upper and lower polymers 5 are combined by this heating into a completely integral holder 5'. Next, its central part is bored by machining, screws 8 and 9 are cut in the upper and lower parts, and a reference electrode 11 is formed of the holder 5', the liquid junction 7', an inside electrode 10, an inner liquid, etc.
