Abstract
PURPOSE:To make it possible to extract a luminance signal that tracks variations in the contrast of an object a background and also to make stable tracking possible, by performing binary coding by using the luminance signal of a picture element one picture element before as a threshold value. CONSTITUTION:A video signal supplied from television camera 5 is input to the region splitting circuit, which divides it into two correlative regions. Then, n-bit luminance signals in both the correlative regions are added and compressed into a linear luminance signal.
