Abstract

PURPOSE: To lower a sulfur dioxide gas concentration in exhaust gas from fuel oil, by suspending a proper amount of limestone or slaked lime into high-sulfur fuel oil, and burning the suspension by using an atomizing burner.
CONSTITUTION: Into high-sulfur fuel oil such as fuel oil C, is suspended finely divided limestone (below about 100μ) or slaked lime such as portlandite. Then, the resulting suspension is burned by using an atomizing burner. The formed sulfur dioxide gas combines with calcium oxide formed from calcination of the finely divided lime mineral and forms a gypsum type mineral. In this way, the sulfur dioxide gas is solidified, and this prevents exhaustion of the gas, with consequent elimination of air pollution.
